A Letter To My Two Year Old Son

This post was originally posted on August 2nd 2018

Hey Rory,

It’s been a busy year. Not too much has changed, you still love bananas and ducks. But since the last letter your mum and I have got married! We are also days away from bringing your little brother into th world.

Another thing that hasn’t changed; you still don’t sleep! Although I have got into a good pattern with you – currently we will watch cartoons until around 10:00 and then I will put my shows on or play a video game (much to your protest) and then you normally fall asleep on my lap within half hour. I then carry you up to bed,

You hit your terrible twos pretty hard! You have such a sassy attitude right now. You will protest anything and everything. You love jumping off things and “butt bumping” onto the mattress or sofa. You are still obsessed with the broom. All the things that make you who you are.

They say kids either focus on speech or movement. You have definitely been all about movement. You don’t walk anywhere, just run. You climb and jump off everything. You are still a little daredevil. Verbally though, you are saying more words than last year – but not much. You KNOW a lot more words than you say. You won’t tell me what you want, but if I offer it you will say “yessss yes yes yes”. ITs pretty cute. You also say banana, cheese, and mama and dad.

Your favourite person in the world right now (other than your mum) is Uncle Max. You are two little trouble makers, but absolutely adore each other. I am sure over the next few years you two will continue to be inseparable.

As I said earlier, your mum and I got married in April. The wedding was the best day of my life, and you looked ADORABLE. You slept over nanny’s house the night before, and Bampy Nick and Janie & Barney looked after you during the day because you were not in the best mood.

Your brother is due very soon. You are VERY territorial of your mother, so I know it will be a bit of a shock when he comes and you have to share her. But I know it is something you will get used to and will come to be the best big brother we can possibly imagine.

You got your first wrestling figures and ring this year! You love them. Always playing fighting with them. You are also very into cars and diplomacy right now too.

This is definitely a special time to be a parent. You are learning and doing new things every day. You make me so proud and my heart full of love every day. It’s been a tough year, but you have helped make me smile every day (even the days I don’t want to smile).

I’m so proud of you.

Love you kiddo,

Dad
