Fireworks

November 5th 2018. Not just Fireworks night, but also the final day of Rorys first ever half term. It’s been a tough old week, without having that afternoon break every day – but this was a night to have fun and be with family.

I’m not a huge fan of fireworks, but some of the best memories I have as a kid is being with family. The dark smokey nights watching fireworks together with burgers, those are some of my favourite times. So when my Dad asked if we wanted to bring the kids over to Nans house for the night, I snapped at the chance!

Rory was only 1 last year, so he didn’t really enjoy the loud bangs as much. But this year he is an energetic two year old adrenaline junkie – so he was in his element! Our other boy Ace, is only 2 months old. So we just focused on keeping him warm, and hoped he would enjoy some of the colours (SPOILERS: he slept the entire time).

So we showed up at around 17:00 and I am not sure who was more excited – Rory or my Nan. My dad had a big bonfire burning away already in the garden, that familiar aroma of fried onion and smokey sulfur bringing me back to those vivid memories I cherish from my childhood. Myself and Sara were both a bit tired, after a very long week – but very excited to have some quality family time and we knew Rory would absolutely love the show.

We settled down out in the garden with my very excited two year old and grandmother itching for the excitement that was on the way. My dad took control of the fireworks and started setting them off, Rory was in awe. He sat still and watched one after the other shoot off an shimmer away. The sparkling and smoke completely drew him in and he was solid like a statue watching in amazement. We had a few breaks for food and for Rory to have a little run around (his current favourite thing is to kick a football and celebrate after very kick).

So after a good couple of hours of solid family time, burgers and adrenaline – Rory was ready for bed. We all drove home and Rory was out like a light ready for his first day back at school.

Overall, a very successful fireworks night that will serve as a fond memory for all of us involved.
