How Avengers: End Game sets up The Young Avengers
WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: END GAME
Young Avengers are a very polarising group within the Marvel Universe. But personally I am a huge fan. They managed to have connections to the main Avengers team, but also bring something completely different to the table. They are also very LGBT+ positive, which is another big highlight.
After watching Avengers: End Game, i have started to think there are quite a few seeds planted for Young Avengers - and I think it would make a for a really decent Disney+ show. Runaways didn’t do as well as people had hoped, and with the success of DCs Titans - Marvel should really be wanting to put out a solid Teen Superhero show to compete with that market. So here is a little run down of which characters I think Disney/Marvel would use for the show - and also the hints that allude to them being part of the MCU.
Iron Lad
The origins of Iron Lad are very confusing. In the comics his real name is Nathanial Richards (father of Reed Richards) and there’s a whole load of time travelling and he later becomes Kang The Conqueror. This wouldn’t make much sense within the MCU right now and I personally think the kid from Iron Man 3 who later appeared at Tony Starks funeral - Harley Keener would make a great Iron Lad, as well as giving that funeral appearance a bit more meaning.
Patriot
The origins of Patriot fit perfectly into the MCU. His grandfather was given the Super Solider Serum as a test subject before Steve Rogers took it to become Captain America. This has been a part of story lines in multiple Captain America films, as well as being mentioned many times in Agents Of SHIELD. Patriot gains the powers through a blood transfusion from his Grandfather and serves as a moral compass of the group.
Wiccan and Speed
One of the confirmed shows for Disney+ is Wanda/Vision. So with the continuation of Scarlet Witch’s character, as well as confirmation that Vision will return - that opens the possibility of their twin sons Wiccan and Speed. Wiccan is a big part of Young Avengers. He has very similar powers to his mother Scarlet Witch and he is openly gay and is in a relationship with fellow Young Avenger Hulking. Speed as the name suggests, has very similar powers to his uncle - Quicksilver. Although he isn’t featured in the Young Avengers anywhere near as much as his twin brother, I feel he would definitely be a character the MCU would want to bring in as they haven’t delved too much into Speedster characters and the Wanda/Vision show could definitely be a great setup for both of these characters.
Hulkling
Even though the name suggests it, Hulkling doesn’t have much to do with the big green guy. Hulkings origins actually emanate from the Skrulls. There definitely seems to be more Skrulls left on Earth after Captain Marvel, and that film being set in the mid 90s it would make sense for one of them to settle down and give us a Skrull/Human cross breed who would be a teenager around now! Hulking is very similar in powers and character to DCs Beast Boy, and if you’ve watched Titans you would see that it can be done pretty well!
Hawkeye
Similarly to Iron Lad the comic origins of Hawkeye would be a little different - but they are already VERY setup with this character in the MCU. Originally, the Young Avengers Hawkeye is an alter ego of Kate Bishop - but at the start of End Game we have Clint teaching his daughter to shoot arrows and he even calls her Hawkeye. Having Jeremy Renner and/or Linda Cardellini appear in the show would help bring legitimacy to it as well as helping pad out Hawkeyes character.
Stature
Stature AKA Cassie Lang is another character that could bring their father in to the show for a couple of appearances to help legitimize the show. From what we have seen from Cassie - especially in End Game is that she is an important part of Ant-Mans character as well as being a teenager in the current time line. Getting her hands on her own suit would fit in with Scott Langs character (he is always supporting her to do what she wants) and if DCs Legends Of Tomorrow can make shrinking down look half decent with Atom - it could look even better on a Disney+ Budget.
Kid Loki
This is one that could POSSIBLY show up in Young Avengers. Kid Loki is that very same Loki character from the MCU, but with a difference. Basically, following Ragnarok - Loki has found a way to permanently cheat death and has been reincarnated as a young boy in France. He regains his memories of Loki but is still trapped in the teenage body - and ends up joining the Young Avengers. Now the MCU Loki is currently in a very strange position. We ARE post Ragnarok and we have also got a rogue past Loki who managed to getaway from his original arrest during End Game. There is also a Loki series planned for Disney+. So even though I don’t think he is a probable entry for this team, there are definitely ways they could use the Loki series to get to the Kid Loki character - and its safe to say the Loki show will be a massive hit, so it would bring a LOT of attention to the Young Avengers series. Even if they don’t go the comic route, its not like they just brought in a Time Machine mechanic that specifically showed a character turning into multiple stages of their life with full knowledge and memory of it...oh wait that’s exactly what they did!
Noh-Varr
Noh-Varr is another character that could possibly be a little overpowered for this team. But with the big focus on the Kree in Captain Marvel, they could definitely bring in this character. Maybe even as a villain to the team who later joins them down the line (similar to his character in the comics).
Big Villain: Kang
With all the time travel involved currently, and whenever there is Time Travel in the Marvel Universe - it is inevitable that Kang The Conqueror will make some sort of appearance. Kang is a long time foe of the Young Avengers, so if he is going to appear in the MCU this would make the most sense for him to make his debut.
