Five FREE Online Rescources for your children this Mental Health Awareness Week

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week!

So as always, I will be increasing posting this week. And I am also going to start a Mental Health project that will run through the week, which you can follow on all our Social Media pages with the final outcome on Friday. This year I will be making Mental Health First Aid Boxes for myself and the rest of my family!

So first post of the week is going to be Five FREE Online Resources for your Children this Mental Health Awareness Week.

1. Sesame Street - Elmos Mindfulness Spectacular

The guys over at Sesame Street have put together a really fun 45 minute video in which a bunch of YouTube celebrities help Elmo with all different coping techniques for when he is having “big feelings”. It’s a great way to introduce these practices to a really young audience.

BONUS TOOL: Sesame Street also have a brilliant emotion control app called Breathe, Think, Do Sesame Street which helps teach kids some great breathing techniques.

2. Mindful Powers For Kids (App)

Mindful Powers is a fantastic free app (there is also a paid version) where your child goes through a story in which you have to take care of a little character. They spend time calming the character down by smoothing them (almost like a fidget toy) and then having a guided meditation with them.

3. Cosmic Kids Yoga

Cosmic Kids Yoga is my absolute favourite YouTube activity to do with the kids.

Every video is a guided yoga session told through stories inspired by many pop culture characters. There is something for anyone; Disney, Sonic, Pokemon.

All sorts of stories to really get your little one interested.

4. Young Minds

Young Minds is in my opinion the best charity for young peoples mental health in the country. They have extensive resources for all sorts of problems young adults could be going through. This page in particular is a great gateway into all the resources they have to offer: Young Minds.

5. Moodgym

Every NHS Doctors favourite mental health website: MoodGym is an interactive Self Help book that teaches you all about CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy). I think every single time I have gone to the GP about my mental health, they have pushed this site, and for very good reason. It has helped a LOT of people train their brains to be more emotionally stable and gives people a lot of coping methods.
